Susan and I had a wonderful visit with Lissa and Hannah in Cambridge and Somerville this past weekend. It’s the first time ever that we’ve visited them at their separate apartments on the same trip; they’ve never lived close enough to each other in their entire adult lives for that to happen. The last time we were all living under the same roof was back in 2004.

So they’ve been quite independent. That being said, I’ve felt that even as Lissa and Hannah became adults, our relationships with each other have stayed as parents and children. Certainly not as parents and immature children, but with the parent/child relationship still there even as that dynamic has become less and less pronounced.

This visit felt like a second birth – for all of us. I feel like all four of us have now given birth to each other as individuals. It feels like a new time of life.
